Lisa and I met via social media in 2016. Since then her work has evolved. The artboards she uses are bigger and her work is more dynamic than ever. Lisa and I finally met in person while I was touring the new headquarters of American Greetings in Cleveland. Lisa is as energetic and dynamic as her work. Below are her latest pieces and current interview. Thanks, Lisa!
1. What’s your name and title/business name? Where are you located, city, state, country location?
My name is Lisa Quine (rhymes with wine,) and I’m a Creative Consultant for Lisa Quine Inc. I’m based in Ohio City, the “Brooklyn” of Cleveland, Ohio.
2. What’s your educational and professional background, i.e., college, professional school, high school, apprenticeship, etc.?
I graduated in 2012 from the University of Dayton with a BA in graphic design. After 6 years in advertising, I left my art director role to work for myself as a lettering artist and muralist. I also accidentally got a job lettering at American Greetings part-time this year, haha.
3. Preferred tool(s) and medium?
Paint, chalk, ink, and Procreate! I love switching it up and using a bunch of tools for a wide-range of projects. I even once used dry erase markers for a publication cover—anything goes!
4. Where or how do you “recharge your creative battery,” i.e., books, blogs, music, art, exercise, meditation, prayer, hobbies, interests, etc.?
Ever since we got a Title Boxing Gym in the neighborhood, I’ve been obsessed! I think walking is my all-time favorite thing to do though. It’s so romantic to be able to have a great conversion with someone, slow down and notice your surroundings, and take time to reflect on things. Plus it’s good for the heart 🙂 To recharge my creative battery, I’ll work on a passion project. I have a zillion ideas I want to bring to life, so whenever I get a couple of hours of free time, I like to hand-letter something for myself! It helps me explore styles I want to test out.
5. Tell us something about you that might surprise or delight us.
I’ve recently been obsessed with Elon Musk. My goal is to be the Elon Musk of lettering and after I get more experienced with murals, I’d love to add electronics into the mix by doing more installation artwork and maybe murals that light up! Like a neon sign on LSD. Until then, I’ll keep taking the edge off at tiki bars – my not so hidden OTHER passion in life 🙂
